This is perhaps the oldest divination deck of witches. Deste means I see fate, that is, the casting of cards for fate. Whatever fate decrees, whatever it decrees is welcome.
Deste cards are perhaps the most ancient deck. It is not known where this deck came from. In Turkish, the term denotes the pile of cards, which the witches of Smyrna are said to have cast, not only to predict their fate, but also to change it. The enlightened witches or jans proceeded to throw the deck on Friday with the loss of the sun, at the loss of the day, with the fall of darkness. The day was Friday and they called it Friday of souls.
