We always love sharing resources with the larger community and we know it can be hard to find just what you are looking for, especially when you are getting specific into the Pagan community.  For those looking for community leaders from different backgrounds it can be especially challenging. We want to help. To kick start our sharing resources we wanted to start with some Powerful and Amazing community leaders from the Black Community!

To start, here are a few larger organizations that provide support, teaching, counseling and more!

The Black Witch University “Founded in 2016, Black Witch University was created in an effort to mentor student witches of the Black diaspora into being comfortable with reclaiming their magical capabilities.” They teach about herbs, gardening, divination Hoodoo, Rootwork, and magickal business plus so much more. It is co-founded by Lakeesha J. Harris who we highlighted previously, and the founder of the Black Witch Chronicales, an author and healer.

The African American Wiccan Society is exactly that! They are dedicated to helping support minorities interested in Wiccan and other Pagan faiths. Their charge is to

“Support people of color in the pursuit of Pagan knowledge and practices. Educate and give ministry to any true seeker of the Pagan Mysteries to build membership and inform members about networks, merry meets, Pagan groups, workshops and celebrations that are important to them. To reassure people of color that they are not alone in the quest for the spiritual self.”

You can also find them on FB

The hoodoo & Conjure Magazine shares spells, tutorials, history, news and so much more! “The mission of Hoodoo and Conjure Magazine is to document New Orleans Voodoo, Hoodoo and conjure traditions in the 21st century”.

There are some amazing conventions and gatherings that are specific to support the Black Pagan Community

Black Witch Convention put on by Dawtas of the Moon

This is an amazing gathering “started in 2016 as a way to bring all black women together who practice the craft in one form or another. The women that participate in the Black Witch Conventions are women that come from a variety of backgrounds and religious/spiritual experiences.” The entire experience is to create a stronger community supporting Black Women! Amazing. Find more in FB. Their founder, the Occult Mama, also deserves to be mentioned here. She is a spiritual and community leader as well as an ordained Metaphysical Minister. She is also a Doula/Midwife Apprentice, Herbalist, Womb Wellness Coach, Reiki Master, Numerologist, Oracle and Bone Reader, and Spiritual Counselor. You can find her on Instagram and on fb

Another great festival is the Detroit Conjure & Folk Magic Festival, whose mission is to share knowledge, and magic! This year’s theme is “The Get Down” and will be Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 10 AM – 8 PM EDT Hazel Park, Hazel Park, Michigan. They share so much more than just this festival, though they are in full support of the community through education, sharing their knowledge, and other events. Find more on their website, or on their fb page

If you are looking to shop or get magick, divination, healing or more here are some great sites

Sage and Sigils is a great place to find not only tools, candles and more but also wisdom from daily practice to history and everything in the middle. On FB page they describe themselves as “This minority owned mystical botanica is dedicated to bridging the “cultural gap” often seen in metaphysical shops. Plus, we specialize in all nature, organic handmade #BlackGirlMagic.” Check out everything offered, learn something, and find support!

You can find magick and more at Black Femme Witches brew . Jamila Kani, the great women in charge, provides her knowledge, spellwork and also help you manifest your own power! Another great resource on her page is a list of interviews with other Conjuring Practitioners.

The Hood Witch has a vast array of projects from spells, to tools, and even day to day fun objects that bring a little magick into your world. You can find posts on so many topics and scroll in what feels like forever while reading informative and interesting blogs.

Even with all these great places and groups we all know that it is the People who make the community!  Here are some amazing people to follow!

Soltahr Tiv-Amanda is the author of She of Many Colors: a Black Woman’s Journey to Self Through the Divine Feminine. She is an ordained Minister and Pagan Priestess working out of Longmont Colorado as a psychotherapist. You can find her online on Facebook or her website www.soltahr.com

Merlin Raven Song is a practitioner and a musician on YouTube. You can learn about magick, witchcraft, plus see reviews, and of course music.

The Magickal Lady Duchess is a proud rootworker, spiritualist, and owner of MLD Holistic Healing in Dallas Tx. She is a holistic healer and she states on her site “My goal is to change the way that Witch’s, Spiritual Workers even Voodoo/Hoodoo is seen in the Universe,” which we can definitely get behind!

Eadig is a youtuber who posts monthly, bringing content that is both supportive and informative.  She is funny, smart and fun to watch talking about everything from being a witch on the day to day, to doing spells, and information for beginners.

You might have already heard about the next great person Zoë Flowers. She was one of the great women on the Black Witch Chronicles (which still has great videos posted on youtube although I have not seen any new shares). She also has her own chanel that is active where she shares her wisdom and knowledge on the Zodiac, Tarot, healing, magick, and more! She is a Reiki Master and Intuitive Reader as well as author and you can read more about her on her website.

An active and intriguing blogger who provides a wealth of information, things to make you think, magick and more is the Black Witch. The list of blogs goes back, well in the blogging world what would be considered forever. A collaborator with AfroPunk (which is also a great resource), an activist, a mother, a witch and a real person! This is an awesome blog and a great place to find knowledge, and while on this site I came across the Alt-Black is a podcast created to highlight all areas of the alternative black spectrum. You can find their podcasts on soundcloud. They are funny and fun to listen to, I have only just begun!

Last but not least and something I just had to share is the Webseries (and it should be more than just that) Juju. Their mission states:

“For many years, our favorite witches, vampires, and werewolves have been those who rarely look like us. Though we’ve enjoyed their stories, there’s still a void in connection. There has been a slight rise in Blacks in fantasy films and TV shows (e.g. Siempre Bruja/Always A Witch, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Charmed Reboot) but not as the main character narrating their own journey and digging into their roots. It’s all about to change. Help us achieve the goal of opening doors for other fantasy storytellers of color. Think about the little boys and little girls who love Harry Potter, imagine if they had a Hermione with full, black curls like them, or a Harry with a snazzy haircut and brown skin. It’s time to include all ethnicities in this realm.”

– Moon Ferguson

The show tells the story of three amazing women as they explore not only their magick but also their ancestral magick, West African mysticism, and Black sisterhood.

We cannot say thank you enough to these amazing people and for all they do. Please reach out if you have any questions or need help finding a community leader near you!
